Walking through the San Felipe Hills was heinously hot. D.b.g.(Dirty Burly) turned into a walking salt lick. Never in her history as a human being has she sweat this much. That being said this is a place YOU ALL must visit. Blooming cactus (ocotillo , barrel, yucca, teddy bear. chollo et ) are a phenomena everyone should see. In the middle of this apparently dry, arid, brown gray desert are bursts of colour so brilliant it startles the eyes. Magenta, deep purples, emerald greens, bright yellow, sparkling whites pop up and delight the soul. The perfection of the universe cannot be misunderstood in this place. What is most astonishing is that the petals on the flowering cactus are so soft and translucent they look like silken paper mâché, soft and tender wrapped by thorns, pricks and skewers. A beautiful cactus garden planted by whom. honestly I've never seen such an exquisite display of colour and form. Hades and heaven side by side.
So we're ecstatic and grateful to be here. By the way, did I mention that Cheri the owner of this place knows people that I know? Way out here I continue to see my connection with all beings.
Wildlife seen to date: bunny rabbits, lizards, a snake (not rattler), a horny toad, a slew of assorted birds, tadpoles in a horse trough. Presently we are in mountain lion and bob cat country. We are looking forward to living in harmony with them.
What a lovely respite for your bodies. I am enjoying the blog so much. - Karen Fox
ReplyDeleteLovely to meet you both and enjoy your company at Mountain Valley Retreat Center. Ahhhhhhhh. That was Oscar's operatic interlude. Happy Trails to you.....until we meet again.
ReplyDeleteIt is so quiet here at MVR...we are in respite waiting for the arrival of Landy tomorrow afternoon. Planning to be watching the lunar eclipse starting at midnight tonight...you are in my thoughts and prayers and I think of you and smile. First hikers to pause at MVR, what a gift you were to me! Look forward to seeing you again and bringing the circle together. Much love, Chery
