The PCT area was badly burned in a fire last summer and about 24 miles are now restricted-can't walk on them. We are going to slack-pack (8 walk without schlepping all our gear) from our last point on the PCT to Idyllwild via the highway and some side roads. It's the best we can do to keep the route continuous. Then we will take a day off from walking.
It's very difficult to integrate back into the " normal" world even for a day because we are so used to going to sleep by 7:30 and getting up by 5:00. I do not know how to eat in public anymore ie how much food to order and when to stop eating. Something is broken. I will talk more about eating...a lot more.
One thing I neglected to tell you all is that about 30 miles from the. BOrder of Mexico on the PCT where it crosses highway 8 three border patrol guards were handcuffing two "illegals" as we walked by. That was a collision of two different worlds. We three singing broadway tunes dressed in our sun-protective clothing carrying food and water for days happy and free while these two men had one bottle of water between them and were scratched up, bleeding and caught. I so wanted to help them but I wasn't up to to any hiker heroics. We walked on as humans tend to do.
I will try to catch up with this blog in the next two days right now I'm going to bed as I'm very tired, it is past 7:30 pm. good night!

Beautiful boulder lands. Probably unclimbed because they are a hike in.
this is trail magic... The trail angel has left water, snacks, cold soda, trash deposit, first aid and extra food, & a picnic table. The kindness of strangers never ceases to amaze me.
In relation to your eating...have you gained or lost any body mass so far? Karen F
