Pointless up and down-our 28th day of walking

Hello friends,
How are you all? We are the same as ever going up and down and around and around. Presently we are walking beside HWay 2 which goes to LA. We are constantly crossing it, meeting up with it and walking way above it. It has a much more direct route than we do, staying in between valleys. We are going up and down ( ie. up 2000 ft., down 1000 ft. then up another 1000ft. etc.) all day long. The route seems utterly pointless  in terms of efficiency and directness. We sometimes (today) go in complete circles. So as.not to go completely insane we remind ourselves that we are supposed to be hiking the CREST of the mountains along the west coast. We are cresting every damn mountain in sight. We all know the shortest way across something square or round right? The designer of the trail did not.
We are still happily doing this amazing route because no matter how funky, wonky, or backwards it is, it is still one continuous path  and believe it or not we are getting closer to Canada. Today was our 28th day hiking  and we're at mile 399. TC wanted to hit 400 today but it was getting dark. We had to camp.
Yesterday TC and DG climbed to the top of Mt. Baden Powell, named after the guy who started the Boy Scouts of America. There was a small obelisk with 4 sides of info about Baden and the boys. Here are a list of attributes that Boy Scouts should strive for : trustworthiness, loyalty, friendliness, bravery, cleanliness, thriftiness, helpfulness, kindness, cheerful, courteous, reverent. I thought you all might like to know about the founding principles of that organization.  Clean, thrifty,  and reverent have got me stumped. Why must someone be clean? Especially a boyscout.
The trees up here, which of course shall remain unnamed. look like big scarred battleships that have been shaped by waves constantly beating down on them. They are smooth and twisted, curved around each other desparate to connect and stay standing even when they are bent over and grotesquely humped. I love their tenacity to stand their ground and keep growing.
Eating on the trail.
Avoiding the PDB. !!
