Meanwhile back at the ranch (literally), there are volunteers that do your laundry, net tents with cots in them, a couple of private trailers for "couples". DG and TC had a room in one of those trailers but it was also where the kitchen, TV and social center was located. DG left around 9 pm to find a cot outside. TC stayed and even with earplugs did not sleep well. That's the way the ball bounces. Each trail angel's house rules differ. This place is clean, has tons of hot water for showers, has about 20 bikes we can borrow and ride the mile into town, has clothes you can borrow while your filthy garments turn clear water black, at least 6 dogs roaming the premises, a cat I've never seen and 3 horses in the corral. This is the Saufley's ranch and we are grateful to be here. There is a place to cook your meals but the girls are eating out. TC has been sorely disappointed in the quality of food we've been eating but she lucked out this morning at Mon Ami where she and DG (now and then called Stinky Pants) had puff pastry filled with scrambled eggs, mushrooms, and one stalk of asparagus and with 4, made from scratch, big puffy pancakes. There were no complaints.
Topo is at the dentist getting a crown glued back in. She went to REI to buy new poles this morning. She has already bought a new sleeping bag. We've decided she is a shopper. We'll talk later. It looks like rain and Stinky Pants hands are freezing. It's definitely cold here today. The desert, what a changeable place, just like DG (aka SP).
Our home for the night at the Saufley's.
Recycled gear from previous hikers.
The Internet cafe.
Command central! The Saufley's host up to 50 hikers a night!
Here is where we get loaner clothes while they wash ours. Can you believe it! There is a team of volunteers that help from the community.
The picture of the awaiting packages is
ReplyDeletereally awesome. Did you three trekkers have something you sent here?
The old man is very impressed but is quite happy to follow PCT vicariously.
Stay well, Dad
We all had packages delivered. In fact TC left her camera battery charger & ankle brace which the kind folks at Best Western forwarded. In addition to the packages coming in, the other side of the garage is dedicated to shipping out.
