Slack packing is ultra light. Only our lunch & water to carry. Rest of the gear was left in our room at the BW.
We hiked from McKenzie to Santiam pass. 18 miles in 7 hours with breaks. This is our fastest time, 3 miles per hour.
FC starting out in the lava field. Rough hiking!!
FC hitching with cars flying by at 65 miles per hour or more. Scary.
Mighty FC lifting air rocks.
Looking back at the Sisters Mtns.
Lone pine in lava field.
Mt. Washington. FC was not so impressed with this mountain. There are some routes on it but it's loose and chaucy. She liked Mt. Theilsen way better.
2000 mile marker.
Berries (huckleberries and blueberries) slowed us down. We stopped to feast. FC looked like she had congestive heart failure she was so blue.It turns out someone passed is then came back & pulled a U-turn to pick us up.
I loved the pic of the 2000 mile marker. You guys have come so far, amazing! Have you seen any signs of bears competing for the yummy looking berries?

DeleteOn to Mt Hood and Timberline Lodge - hooray! I was delighted to receive a cell call from TC at a birthday dinner for Jamie Fox & Katharine Fox (her nephew & niece) on 8/21. I too wish to have joined Jeff for his 50th birthday celebration - my ability to travel is more limited these days. Love to all, Dad
